The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State has announced the temporary closure of a collapsed bridge along the Katsina–Batsari highway, following heavy rainfall on Saturday night, 9th August 2025.
The incident occurred a few metres from Salbak Filling Station, after Shagari Low-Cost Estate, on the section linking Batsari, Jibia, and Al-Qalam University.
Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell K. Lede, who visited the site on Sunday morning for an on-the-spot assessment, confirmed that the bridge was severely damaged by the downpour. He advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
According to him, travellers heading to Batsari from Katsina should divert through Ring Road by Al-Qalam University, while vehicles coming from Batsari should use the Army Barracks–Jibia road to reconnect to their destinations.
Commander Lede urged media outlets to help create public awareness, stressing the dangers of attempting to cross the collapsed section, especially during evening hours or in poor visibility caused by rain. He also called on the Katsina State Government to provide temporary barricades to enforce road closure and prevent further accidents.
The FRSC has already cordoned off both ends of the damaged bridge to ensure safety. “Road safety is a shared responsibility,” Lede stated, adding that the Corps remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through proactive measures.
